Looking after your skin – a daily routine that works

#SalteeSpreadLove

Looking after you

Moving beyond the house, getting some fresh air and vitamin D from the sun – it has never been more important. Vitamin D helps regulate the amount of calcium and phosphate in the body.

These nutrients keep bones, teeth and muscles healthy so its imperative we head outside and make the most when the sun is shining. It also promotes that healthy glow our skin might be lacking as we’re indoors so much of the time in our various states of “lockdown”.

When we do go outside, rain or shine, it is so important to protect our skin. UV radiation from the sun is transmitted in three wavelengths – UVA, UVB and UVC. UVC does not penetrate the earth’s atmosphere, so we only really need to protect against UVA and UVB.

UV irradiation in the form of UVA is associated with skin ageing. UVA affects the elastin in the skin and leads to wrinkles and sun-induced skin ageing as well as skin cancer. UVA can penetrate window glass and penetrates the skin more deeply than UVB. UVA protection in a sunscreen helps defend the skin against photo ageing and potentially skin cancer.

UVB is the form of UV irradiation most responsible for sunburn and has strong links to malignant melanoma and basal cell carcinoma risk (types of skin cancer). A sunscreen with a high SPF (Sun Protection Factor) will help block UVB rays and prevent the skin from burning, and by extension damage that can cause skin cancer.

We recommend wearing Saltee Daily Protection Formula which protects against both UVA and UVB rays. Our lightweight SPF is nourishing with a quick absorbing dew from avocado oil that delivers the SPF 50 level of protection.

Did you also know that 75% of UVA rays can penetrate glass? So you really should be wearing an SPF, even on those days indoors.

Stay nourished, protected and pampered with a few of our skincare tips:

1 Pick a hydrating cleanser for a thorough clean – even though you might not be wearing as much make-up – it’s important not to skimp on this step;

2 Using a toner balances the PH of your skin, and also helps for the absorbency of the next steps – plus it feels amazingly refreshing!

3 Apply a serum that includes Retinol or Hyaluronic Acid – your skin will thank you for the extra moisture boost!

4 For your morning routine ensure you apply Saltee SPF50 Daily Protection Formula. Whether you’re staying indoors, popping out for a walk or even relaxing in the garden, Saltee is so important to include as an essential part of your routine.

Daily Protection Formula contains a super blend of high efficacy ingredients with effective skincare benefits:

Avocado oil is packed with Vitamin E to revitalise and replenish the skin

Nordic pine bark helps combat and prevent hyper-pigmentation giving a fresh faced Scandi-sheen look

Neroli Oil helps rejuvenate and boost the natural regeneration of skin cells

Panthenol works to attract and retain moisture whilst reducing redness for an even skin tone

And of course, don’t forget to look after your hands and body. Our Saltee SPF30 Active Sun Lotion is our “go-to” right now.  Here’s how you can use it:

  • Apply to the entire body on a daily basis to provide intense hydration to the skin;
  • Hands might be extra sore at the moment – pamper them by applying a coat of Active Sun Lotion and use a pair of moisture gloves overnight for super soft skin;
  • Apply a dab at night – the soothing, natural essential oils will help you stay calm and relax at the end of the day

Why not take time to set aside a pamper evening? We all deserve a little treat sometimes. Apply a face mask, light some candles and pour a glass of vino (or two!) and enjoy!
